Henry Nicolas Jabbour (Lebanese-British, b. 1961) is a painter and printmaker whose work explores the relationship between the visual and the emotional. Through the human figure, colour, gesture, and mark-making, his practice engages with vulnerability, identity, impermanence, and the shared experiences that connect individuals to one another.
Working intuitively from observation and memory, Jabbour draws deeply from his personal history. He describes painting as a process of excavating memories and feelings, mirrored in the building up and scraping back of paint on the canvas. While rooted in personal experience, his works move beyond the autobiographical to invite broader interpretations of relationships and the human condition.
Jabbour works primarily in oil painting and also produces unique works on paper using monotype, etching, and lithography. He has further extended his practice into bronze sculpture. His work is characterised by expressive colour, vigorous mark-making, and a sustained exploration of the human figure.
Since 2014, Jabbour has exhibited internationally across the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, Australia, and Asia. His work has been presented at EXPO CHICAGO, Art Miami, Sydney Contemporary, KIAF Seoul, Art on Paper New York, the Royal Academy of Arts, and the Royal Scottish Academy, among others.
He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2020, serving as Vice President from 2024 to 2026, and became a member of the Pastel Society in 2021. His work is held in the collection of Pembroke College, Cambridge, as well as in private collections internationally.
