Georges Bassil Lebanon, b. 1965

Georges Bassil (b.1965, Beirut, Lebanon) is a self-taught artist who began his career in 1995. As an autodidact, he draws inspiration from his emotions and personal experiences. His works primarily depict human figures, with a particular focus on the female form and the emotions conveyed through facial expression and presence.

Through transparency and delicate applications of pigment, Bassil engages in a dialogue with the human soul, expressing transience and connection with the other. In an increasingly zealous world, he recreates his visions on warm fabrics, portraying figures that exist without judgment—indifferent to the scrutiny of viewers and immersed in their own thoughts and emotions.

Bassil has participated in numerous solo and collective exhibitions across the Middle East and internationally, including in Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE, France, the UK, and Russia.

“It is within a universe steeped in solitude and silence, this chosen, sacred, and precious solitude that Georges Bassil evolves, creates, withdraws and invites the gaze to rest.

Through a collection of works, where his signature, atmosphere, and talent are instantly felt in a single glance, in a single emotion, the artist revisits his favored themes, figures fused with ochres, reds, beiges, blacks, and whites. Beautiful and gentle solitudes, yet open to encounters, dialogue, and sharing.”
