Art on 56th is proud to announce BEYOND SCREENS a solo exhibition of works by Lebanese artist Imad Fakhry. Rooted in the craft of trompe l’oeil, the works explore the dichotomies between flatness and depth, motion and stillness, creation and completion, depicting everyday scenes with expressive brushwork and hues.
Imad Fakhry’s paintings symbolize vessels of storytelling, bridging past with present and infusing the canvases with cultural and historical references. Inspired by masters of the 20th Century, including Paul Cézanne, the artist experiments with the concepts of space, colour and surface, blending past with present to create his own unique visual language. The combination of the intense palette and matte finish produces a sense of inherent nostalgia, emanating from the unfinished quality of the paintings, revealing a balanced interplay between process and result.
Creating a sense of intimacy between subject and viewer, Imad Fakhry’s canvases echo the serenity usually found in the tradition of still-lives while immortalizing ephemeral moments. His craft represents a return to the art of observation, where his paintings reflect upon the human experience, rich in depth and emotion, unveiling the timeless beauty at the heart of ordinary life.
